What makes painting people interesting for me…

It may be a smile, a look, an attitude or expression that conveys emotions and traits like joy, melancholy, desire or inner confidence that draws me to a subject.

I often take my own photos of people, other times I browse social media sights randomly looking for a subject that beckons to be painted. It’s remarkable how people wish to be seen on sites like Instagram, Facebook, Tinder and Grindr; putting forth to the world images of how they wish to be perceived.

I often discover exceptional photographic compositions that when interpreted in the form of a painting suddenly become more significant. Take a subject out of the photographic social media realm and into a painting on the wall and the viewer experiences the subject in a very different way.
